| WWII Navy Purple Heart Memorial Location: Orion, Michigan This memorial is dedicated to all navy personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice by giving their lives for this great country and are buried beneath the oceans and seas around the world. There is no cross to mark the grave where they now lie. Rarely are they or families given the recognition for what they have done. The memorial consists of a Navy pea coat, sailors cap, and a purple heart medal pinned on the coat. |

Monument to the Living Location: St. Paul, Minnesota Finally a monument to the living veteran. The monument came at time when veterans need a positive focus. It exposes the veteran in a very human way, with dignity. Monument to the Living portrays a nineteen-year-old kid in full combat gear, asking a question that can be phrased a hundred different ways. For many of us it asks, “Why do you forget us?” |

Above and Beyond WWII Marine Location: Anoka, Minnesota This memorial is representative of all recipients of the Medal of Honor. This was dedicated to Richard Keith Sorenson (who was a resident of Anoka and a Medal of Honor recipient) on Memorial Day, May 27,199. It is a symbol of going above and beyond the call of duty to protect this country and the willingness to put their lives on the line for their fellow man. |

Military Cross Location: Lansing, Michigan When we lose soldiers in the line of duty it has become customary to arrange their boots, rifle and helmet into a “cross” formation, which memorializes our fallen heroes. The military cross or its official name, “Battlefield Cross” reminds us that war comes with a pretty hefty price. |

WWI Doughboy Location: Rome, Georgia “Doughboy” was the nickname for American soldiers during WWI. It seems to be associated with the dumpling shaped buttons worn by union soldiers in France. The term lost favor after the war and was replaced in common usage by “G.I.” He stands at the Tomb of the Known Soldier in Rome, GA. |
