The Peacekeeper

Created as a tribute to the Marines killed in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984, “The Peacekeeper” depicts a young Marine holding an unloaded  M-16 rifle.  Because the Marines were there in Beirut on a “peacekeeping” mission, they were not allowed to defend themselves against terrorists and as a result 243 were killed by a single bomb attack.  The first miniature “Peacekeeper” was constructed within one month following that disaster, polychromed bronze, showing a Marine holding one hand up warding off terror while the other holds an unloaded rifle, symbolic of our country’s relucctance to permit our military, at least at that point in time, to protect themselves.  This bronze miniature comes mounted on a standard walnut base with a brass engraved plate.
