The Peacoat Monument is located in Orion, Michigan, and honors sailors lost at sea. The sculpture was created in cast bronze, and depicts a wooden chair, over the back of which is draped a sailor’s pea coat. A purple heart is pinned to the right chest area of the coat. A sailor’s cap rests on the seat of the chair and a puddle of water forms the base. The sculpture has a color patina finish – the pea coat is navy blue, the cap is white and the wooden chair is brown. It’s as though a sailor came back from sea and left his coat and cap on the chair to dry.
